The Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) offers a bursary program to support South African students pursuing careers in civil engineering or related infrastructure engineering disciplines.

The IMESA bursary aims to assist deserving students facing financial limitations and acknowledge the achievements of IMESA members’ dependents.

About the IMESA Bursary

The IMESA Bursary Scheme was established in 2000 to close the financial gap for students passionate about civil engineering and its allied fields.

There are two categories under this bursary scheme:

  1. Bursary Scheme A: This category is open to all applicants pursuing civil engineering or a related engineering discipline, regardless of their connection to IMESA.
  2. Bursary Scheme B: This category is specifically for dependents of IMESA members who have held active membership for a minimum of five years. These dependents must be pursuing studies in civil engineering or a related field.

The IMESA Bursary covers tuition fees and prescribed textbooks, up to a maximum of R50,000 per annum.

Also, bursary recipients are assigned a mentor and encouraged to participate in IMESA activities. This is meant to foster professional development and networking opportunities.
