The Johannesburg Stock Exchange is Africa’s oldest and largest exchange, and its JSE Empowerment Fund pays for the studies of strong students from disadvantaged backgrounds in the fields that run financial markets, from accounting and actuarial science to data analytics and IT.
About the JSE Empowerment Fund Bursary
- Fields: accounting, actuarial science, computer science, data analytics, economics, finance, informatics, information technology and mathematics.
- For students entering second year, third year or Honours.
- Universities: Pretoria, Johannesburg, Wits, Cape Town, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Fort Hare, Nelson Mandela and North-West.
JSE Empowerment Fund Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen from a designated or previously disadvantaged background.
- Full-time student at one of the listed universities.
- At least a 70% overall average.
- Household income of no more than R650 000 a year.
How to apply
- Check the careers section of jse.co.za for the JSE Empowerment Fund bursary listing.
- Prepare a certified ID, academic transcripts, proof of registration, proof of household income, proof of residence and a signed affidavit confirming your information.
- Apply online before the closing date.
Closing date
31 October in the last round (2025, for 2026 studies). The 2027 date had not been published when we checked.
