The Livestock Registering Federation (LRF) records pedigrees and performance data for South Africa’s livestock breed societies. Its Dr Michael Bradfield Bursary honours the genetics consultant who helped bring the BREEDPLAN and HerdMASTER systems to southern African breeders, and funds one postgraduate student a year in animal breeding and genetics, with an emphasis on inclusion and support for underprivileged students.

LRF Bursary eligibility requirements
- A completed BSc Agriculture in animal science from a South African university registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions.
- An overall average of at least 65%.
- At least 70% in the third-year or final-year animal breeding and genetics modules.
- Strong academic ability and the intention to complete the postgraduate degree within two to three years.
- Nomination by the head of the animal science department.

- Attach certified copies of your degree certificate and academic transcripts, a CV and a proposal for your research project.
