Mulilo is a South African independent renewable energy company, founded in 2008, that develops wind and solar photovoltaic projects, several of them around De Aar, Prieska and Petrusville in the Northern Cape. Since 2014 its bursary fund has paid for young people from those communities to study at university, college or trade school, in any field.

About the Mulilo Bursary

The bursary funds study in any field at an accredited university, university of technology, TVET college or trade institution, and covers:

Tuition fees.
A textbook allowance.
Accommodation.
A monthly stipend.
Psychosocial support and academic tutoring throughout the studies.

Mulilo Bursary eligibility requirements

South African citizen.
Permanently resident in the Emthanjeni, Renosterberg or Siyathemba local municipality in the Northern Cape.
In Matric, or have completed Matric.
Enrolled, or applying, at an accredited tertiary or trade institution.
From a disadvantaged household, with no other funding, and registering for the first time.

How to apply for the Mulilo Bursary

Go to the Mulilo bursary page on the Xhuma platform at bursaries.xhuma.io/mulilo and create a profile.
Complete the online form and upload certified copies of: your ID; your Matric results or certificate; your academic transcripts if already studying; proof of address; your parents’ or guardians’ proof of income; the tertiary and accommodation fee statement; and an affidavit confirming your residence, that you have no other funding and that this is your first registration.
Submit before 31 October 2026. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed before awards are confirmed.

1. When does the Mulilo bursary close for 2027? +

31 October 2026. Applications are made online on the Xhuma bursary platform.

2. Who qualifies? +

South African citizens permanently resident in the Emthanjeni (De Aar), Renosterberg (Petrusville) or Siyathemba (Prieska) municipalities of the Northern Cape, in Matric or with Matric, enrolled or applying to an accredited tertiary or trade institution, from disadvantaged households and not holding other funding.

3. Which fields are funded? +
