Specialists in high-pressure pipelines

VGI Consulting describes itself as one of Southern Africa’s leading consulting engineering firms in pipeline engineering. VGI has designed and project-managed numerous high-pressure steel pipelines and associated infrastructure, working with specialist partners. Its major clients have included Transnet, Sasol, Sasol Gas and Siemens, and its pipeline work has extended from South Africa into Mozambique, according to a provider record checked in August 2026.

Pipelines carry fuel from ports and refineries to inland markets and natural gas from Mozambique to South African industry. Designing them involves route selection, stress analysis, corrosion protection, river and road crossings and strict safety standards, a narrow and highly technical niche.

VGI’s in-house capabilities include process, civil and structural, mechanical and piping, and geotechnical engineering. The VGI bursary

Because VGI competes for a small pool of specialist civil and mechanical engineers, its bursary works as a direct talent pipeline. The bursary is open to South African citizens under 30 who have completed at least first year of full-time study towards a BEng or BSc in civil or mechanical engineering, with funding intended to carry bursars through to graduation. VGI’s public material does not specify a bonded work-back period; the firm’s interest is in identifying students it may later recruit.
