Samancor Chrome is the world’s second-largest ferrochrome producer, with mines and smelters in the North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Its bursary programme, run through its Khuphuka Training and Development Centre, funds engineering, geology and human resources students and takes them into the company’s graduate programme.

About the Samancor Chrome Bursary

The bursary covers tuition, books, accommodation and an allowance for an undergraduate degree at a recognised South African university, with vacation work at Samancor’s operations. Fields of study are:

  • Mining engineering and metallurgical engineering.
  • Mechanical engineering.
  • Electrical and electronic engineering.
  • Geology.
  • Human resources management.

Samancor Chrome Bursary eligibility requirements

  • South African citizen.
  • Completed Matric, with strong results in Mathematics and Physical Science for the engineering and geology fields.
  • Entering first, second or third year of an undergraduate degree in one of the fields above.
  • Enrolled, or provisionally accepted, at a recognised South African university.
  • Preference for applicants from the communities around Samancor’s mines and smelters.

How to apply for the Samancor Chrome Bursary

  1. Open the bursary application on the Samancor Chrome portal linked from samancorcr.com when the call is published.
  2. Complete the online form and upload certified copies of: your ID; your Grade 10, Grade 11 and Matric results; proof of acceptance from the university on its letterhead; your current academic records if already studying; and a CV.
  3. Submit before the closing date. Shortlisted applicants are assessed and interviewed by Khuphuka.
