How FHS thinks about fleets

Fleet Horizon Solutions says it views fleet operations not as a cost centre but as a profit-driven environment, and FHS points out that a one cent difference in operating costs can add up to savings of thousands of rands across a fleet. FHS also explains its leases in plain terms: in an operating lease, FHS owns the vehicle for the contract, while the client controls the vehicle and shares in its risks.

FHS draws one conclusion that explains its bursary. FHS says it has found a direct link between fleet operating costs and how well fleet users and staff are trained.

A bursary in the skills FHS uses

Fleet Horizon Solutions funds bursaries in transport and fleet management, diesel mechanics and light-current electrical engineering, the same disciplines behind FHS’s own services. That mix of trades and management fields means the bursary suits both a TVET student training as a diesel mechanic and a university student studying transport management.

The FHS bursary also helps grow the pool of black professionals in fleet and transport, an industry that larger, less transformed players have historically dominated.

When FHS advertises

FHS advertises in October. The 2026 round closed on 30 November 2025, and the 2024 round closed on 15 December 2023. The 2027 call had not been published when BursariesAfrica checked.

How to prepare

Watch FHS’s website from October and ask the company which of the four fields it will fund, whether it accepts TVET students, and whether bursars do vacation work in FHS’s workshops or offices. Students interested in telematics should read about how vehicle tracking data helps fleet owners reduce fuel use and accidents, which fits FHS’s focus on costs.

Diesel mechanic and electrical students should mention any practical experience with vehicles, generators or workshop tools, because FHS’s services depend on keeping vehicles running reliably for clients.
