Just In: SASSA Confirms Grant Increases Implemented in April 2025

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that all social grant increases scheduled for 2025 have already been implemented. While there will be no additional or double payments this year, millions of beneficiaries are already receiving higher monthly grants following the official increase that took effect in April 2025.

This adjustment is part of government’s broader strategy to support vulnerable citizens and shield low-income households from the rising cost of living.

Updated SASSA Grant Amounts for 2025

SASSA grants were increased across all major categories in April 2025. The new monthly amounts are as follows:

  • Old Age Grant (60–74 years): Increased by R130, now R2,315
  • Old Age Grant (75+ years): Increased by R135, now R2,335
  • Disability Grant: Increased by R130, now R2,315
  • War Veterans Grant: Increased by R130, now R2,315
  • Care Dependency Grant: Increased by R130, now R2,315
  • Foster Care Grant: Increased by R70, now R1,250
  • Child Support Grant: Increased by R30, now R560

These changes are part of the R284.7 billion allocated to social grant spending, as announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana during the National Budget Speech earlier this year.

Payment Options for Grant Beneficiaries

SASSA has made it easier for beneficiaries to access their funds by offering multiple payment channels suited to different locations and preferences:

1. Bank Deposits

Funds are transferred directly to the beneficiary’s personal bank account. This method offers 24/7 access to money through ATMs and banking apps.

2. Retail Store Withdrawals

Grants can be collected from selected national retailers, including:

  • Pick n Pay
  • Shoprite
  • Boxer
  • Usave
  • OK
  • Checkers

3. Mobile Cash Pay Points

For beneficiaries in rural or underserved areas, SASSA uses mobile cash pay points. These are only available on specific dates each month and may operate within limited hours.

Report Misinformation and Get Assistance

SASSA continues to warn the public about fake news and false social media posts relating to grant payments. Beneficiaries are advised to verify any grant-related updates through official SASSA channels.
