The South African Road Federation is the industry body for everything to do with roads, from pavement design to traffic safety. Its bursary is a partial award aimed at students who intend to build a career in the South African road transport sector, and it favours postgraduates and people already working in the industry.

About the SARF Bursary

Fields: road safety engineering, road transport economics, road transport management and road engineering, including civil, traffic, bridge and pavement engineering, transportation planning, construction management, construction materials, storm water and environmental engineering.
A partial bursary towards study-related expenses, with the amount set by your circumstances and the SARF Council’s approval.
Successful applicants become SARF associate members.

SARF Bursary eligibility requirements

Preferably a South African resident; SADC nationals may also apply.
Studying at an accredited South African institution, with the institution’s endorsement.
Passed the first semester of a diploma, or the first year of a degree.
Intending to work in the South African road transport sector. Preference goes to MTech, MSc and other advanced students, full-time students and employees of SARF members.

How to apply for the SARF Bursary

Download the application form from sarf.org.za when the round opens.
Attach a certified ID, certified Grade 11 results, a certified Matric certificate and your recent tertiary results on the institution’s letterhead.
Post it to PO Box 8379, Birchleigh 1621, or hand-deliver it to 48 Gladiator Street, Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, before the closing date.

SARF Bursary closing date

31 August 2026 for the 2027 academic year (closed). Expect the end of August 2027 for 2028.
