Fields of Study

Construction careers in South Africa follow two main routes. Trades such as bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work are learned through apprenticeships or learnerships and a QCTO trade test, often after N1 to N3 studies at a TVET college.

Professional routes include degrees and diplomas in construction management, quantity surveying, civil engineering and architecture at universities and universities of technology.

Construction managers can register with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP).
