Talksure is a Durban-based financial services and customer contact centre group that sells insurance and value-added products by telephone. Between 2020 and 2022 it ran a bursary for students already at university in fields that fed its own workforce: data science, IT, insurance, finance, marketing and law. The group’s consumer brand is now HelpMe, a personal safety and emergency response app.

About the Talksure Bursary

The bursary covered tuition fees, prescribed textbooks and accommodation for the academic year, capped at:

R85 000 for students at a university of technology.
R95 000 for students at a university.

Bursars were expected to keep an excellent academic record and were considered for vacation work and graduate positions in the group.

Talksure Bursary eligibility requirements

South African citizen, aged 18 to 35.
Completed Matric and at least one year of tertiary study. First-year students were not eligible.
Registered full-time at a public university or university of technology.
An excellent academic record in the previous year.
Studying one of the fields below at undergraduate, honours or postgraduate level.

Fields of study

Data science and data analytics.
Information technology.
Insurance, risk management, finance, investments and economics (BCom or BAdmin).
Financial planning and loss adjusting.
Marketing.
Law, with a focus on financial planning, insurance or pension funds.

Talksure Bursary application process

Applications were submitted online with certified copies, no older than six months and saved as PDF, of:

Your ID.
Your Matric certificate.
Official academic transcripts for every year of tertiary study, on the institution’s letterhead.
Proof of registration for the current year.
The official fee statement, and quotations for prescribed textbooks.
Proof of residence.

If the group revives the bursary, it will be posted on its careers page at talksure.breezy.hr. We will update this page if that happens.

The last confirmed closing date was 8 July 2022. There is no 2027 closing date because no intake has been announced.

Insurance and finance bursaries to apply for in 2027

The insurance industry funds a large number of commerce, actuarial and IT students every year through Santam, Hollard, Old Mutual, Sanlam, Discovery, Momentum and the INSETA bursary scheme.
