About the Amazon Development Centre
Amazon Development Centre South Africa, in partnership with StudyTrust, aims to nurture high-potential students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
The bursary supports future Software Development Engineers at Amazon.
Fields of Study Funded
Eligible fields include full-time study or Honours in:
- Computer Science
- Computer Engineering or Software Engineering
- Information Technology or Systems
- Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science
- Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) for tech roles
- Education (Maths & Science teaching)
Benefits for Recipients
The bursary covers:
- Tuition and registration fees (capped)
- Residence or private accommodation
- Textbooks, stationery and study materials
- A personal computer
- Monthly living and transport allowance
- A paid summer internship at Amazon, offering real-world experience and internship-based evaluation toward a permanent Software Development Engineer (SDE) role starting January 2028.
Eligibility Criteria
You must meet all of the following:
- Be a South African citizen
- Enrolled at a South African university
- Entering your final undergraduate year in 2026 (3rd year of a 3-year degree or 3rd year of a 4-year degree)
- Intend to pursue Honours (NQF Level 8) by end‑2027
- Not be a Master’s-level student
- Achieve and maintain a minimum 65% average
- Be available to complete a paid internship at Amazon and accept a full-time position if offered, for the same number of years as bursary support received
How to Apply
- Complete your application online via StudyTrust’s platform (available from May 1)
- Upload certified documents (see next section)
- When prompted “Where did you hear about bursaries?”, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
- Submit before the closing deadline (applications are reviewed on a rolling basis)
Required Documents
Include certified copies of:
- South African ID document
- Matric certificate and full academic transcript
- Proof of current university registration for the 2026 academic year
- Proof of household income (e.g., payslips, affidavit)
- CV and motivational letter explaining your interest in Amazon and software development engineering
- Passport-style profile photo and proof of address as required
