The Drakenstein Municipality bursary is a partial/full-tuition funding opportunity provided each year for residents of Drakenstein covering a wide range of study fields.

Benefits for Recipients

  • The bursary is partial funding, not always covering full tuition.
  • It supports both new applicants and continuing students. Continuing bursary holders may have their award renewed if they meet academic performance requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, you must generally meet all of the following:

  1. Be a South African citizen or permanent resident. (This is assumed, though sources focus more on residence in the municipality.)
  2. Be between 18 and 35 years old.
  3. Permanently reside within Drakenstein Municipality (towns like Paarl, Gouda, Simondium, Saron, Wellington)
  4. Be studying or intending to study full-time at a recognised Higher Education / Training institution in one of the listed eligible fields. Or have applied/are in the process of applying.
  5. Be able to provide proof of admission/application, latest academic results, proof of residence, and proof of parents’/guardians’ income, etc.

How to Apply

  1. Obtain the application form from Drakenstein Municipality. It may be available online from the Municipality’s website or collected from municipal offices, libraries, or Thusong centres.
  2. Complete the application form in full and attach all required supporting documents (see next section).
  3. Submit the application by one of these methods:

    • Hand delivery to the Human Resources / Training & Development, Civic Centre, Berg River Boulevard, Ground Floor, Corporate Services, Paarl.

Required Documents

These are the documents typically required:

  1. Certified copy of your South African ID.
  2. Certified copy of most recent academic results (June or September) if currently studying; or latest completed results if not currently studying.
  3. Proof of application or acceptance to a recognized institution, if not yet enrolled.
  4. Details of your intended course: duration, scope, tuition fees, banking details on institution letterhead.
  5. Proof of residence in Drakenstein (e.g., utility bill).
    Proof of parents’ / guardians’ income/affidavit if unemployed, or proof of grant/pension if applicable.

Closing Date

The closing date for applications is Friday, 10 October 2025, at 15:00.

Should there be no feedback received by 31 January 2026, you may assume that your application has been unsuccessful.
