Marula Platinum is an Impala Platinum (Implats) mine near Burgersfort in the Sekhukhune district of Limpopo. Under its social and labour plan it funds young people from its host communities to study mining, engineering, geology and related fields at selected universities, with vacation work at the mine and a route into Implats’ graduate programmes.

About the Marula Platinum Bursary

Fields: chemical, electrical, mechanical, metallurgical and mining engineering, geology, mine surveying and human resources.
Universities: University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria, North-West University (Potchefstroom), University of the Witwatersrand and University of Limpopo.
Covers registration and tuition fees, on-campus residence, meals, a living allowance and mentoring, plus a personal computer for second-year students.
Bursars do vacation work at the mine and may be offered employment with Implats after graduating.

Marula Bursary eligibility requirements

Living in the communities around Marula mine in the Sekhukhune district.
Matric with a bachelor’s pass and at least a C symbol (60%) in English, Mathematics and Physical Science.
Current university students: an overall average of at least 60%.
Medically fit, with leadership potential and good communication skills.
Preference for designated groups under the Employment Equity Act.

How to apply for the Marula Bursary

Prepare certified copies of your ID and Matric certificate, your tertiary academic record if you are already studying, proof of university acceptance if available and proof of residence. There is no application form.
Hand-deliver the documents to the Marula Platinum stakeholder department or the community desk at the mine before the closing date.
Shortlisted candidates are interviewed and sent for medicals before awards are confirmed in time for registration.
