The scale of AECOM’s work

AECOM’s current projects show the kind of work bursars could eventually join. AECOM serves as the official venue infrastructure partner for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Boston Logan International Airport’s Terminal E, which AECOM worked on, received a World Selection award in the World’s Most Beautiful Airports category at the 2024 Prix Versailles.

AECOM links its future to climate goals as well. AECOM says it aims to help achieve net-zero emissions, improve social outcomes for clients and communities, and build a culture of fairness, respect and collaboration.

The AECOM bursary in South Africa

AECOM’s South African bursary for the 2027 academic year is open on the AECOM careers portal and closes on 21 November 2026. Earlier rounds closed in mid-November, so AECOM consistently runs later than most engineering bursaries, which close by September.

The late date gives students a second chance after rejections from mid-year bursaries, but it also means AECOM compares applicants who have their final-year or semester results in hand.

Researching AECOM before applying

AECOM’s global recruiters describe interviewing large groups of engineering graduates, and South African applicants should expect a structured process too. Read about AECOM’s transport, water and buildings work, and prepare to explain which area interests you and why. Ask AECOM’s South African team which offices take vacation students and whether the bursary leads into a graduate programme.

AECOM is a United States company, so check that any job or bursary advert you find links back to aecom.com rather than to a third-party site that asks for payment.

Because AECOM’s round closes after most final examinations begin, prepare your application during the September holidays, when you have time to write a careful motivation and collect certified documents before the November deadline. Late submissions are unlikely to be considered.

Engineering students can compare AECOM with other consultancies on our civil engineering bursaries page.
