How Do I Open an NSFAS Account?

For first-time applicants, creating an NSFAS account is the first step to applying for financial aid. The process is straightforward and can be completed online.

  1. Visit the official NSFAS website: https://www.nsfas.org.za/content/how-to-apply.html
  2. Click on “MyNSFAS Account.”
  3. Select “Register” to initiate the account creation process.
  4. Enter your personal details accurately, including your South African ID number, a valid email address, and a mobile phone number.
  5. Create a strong password and choose memorable security questions for future account recovery.
  6. Review and accept the Terms and Conditions before submitting your registration.

How Do I Activate My NSFAS Account?

The registration process requires you to enter the following details:

  1. South African ID number (This will become your username)
  2. Valid email address
  3. Cellphone number
  4. Create a strong password
  5. Choose security questions and answers (Remember these for future password recovery).

Once you’ve filled out the form, accept the terms and conditions, and click “Submit.” 

NSFAS will send a verification email to the address you provided. Open the email and click the activation link to complete your account creation.

How Do I Use NSFAS on WhatsApp?

You can start a conversation with one of their employees and they will help you with all the information that you need.

You must however note that NSFAS will never request personal information or ask you to confirm your login details through WhatsApp.

How Do I Check My NSFAS Application Status?

Once you’ve submitted your application, you can check its status by logging into your MyNSFAS account. Here’s what to do:

  1. Go to https://www.nsfas.org.za/content/how-to-apply.html and click “MyNSFAS Account.”
  2. Enter your username (ID number) and password.
  3. Click on the “Track Application Status” tab on the dashboard.
  4. The portal will display the current stage of your application review process.
