How to File an Appeal with SASSA

If your SRD application is rejected, you have the right to file an appeal against the decision. Here’s how to submit an appeal:

1. Visit the SASSA SRD website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal.
2. Look for a section titled “Appeal Application” or “Submit Appeal.”
3. You’ll be required to provide your South African ID number and the phone number used during your application.
4. Select the application month you’re appealing for.
5. From a dropdown menu, select the reason for appealing your application’s rejection.
6. Attach Supporting Documents. While not mandatory, attaching relevant documents like income statements or proof of residence can strengthen your appeal. Ensure these documents are clear and in a supported format.
7. Review the information carefully before submitting your appeal. Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation message with a reference number for tracking purposes.

Offline Appeal:

1. You can visit your nearest SASSA office to submit a paper-based appeal form.
2. The SASSA website might offer a downloadable appeal form you can complete and submit at a local office.

Regardless of the submission method (online or offline), make sure you submit your appeal within 30 days of receiving the rejection notification. Late appeals might not be considered.

Why appeal with SASSA was Declined?

Some common reasons for SASSA application rejection include: income exceeding the SRD eligibility threshold, duplicate applications, inaccurate or incomplete information provided or ineligibility due to other government grants.
