OR Tambo District Municipality, based in Mthatha, covers the Wild Coast and its hinterland in the Eastern Cape: King Sabata Dalindyebo, Nyandeni, Mhlontlo, Port St Johns and Ingquza Hill local municipalities. It has funded first-year degree and diploma students from poor households in the district through a bursary administered from its Registry Office.

- South African citizen living in the OR Tambo District.
- In Matric or completed Matric.
- Enrolling for a first degree or diploma and accepted into university residence.
- From a poor household. Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
How to apply for the OR Tambo Bursary
- Write an application letter describing your social background, your academic record and your family’s employment situation.
- Attach a certified ID, your Matric results or certificate, proof of university admission and residence acceptance, proof of residence from your ward councillor or traditional authority, your parents’ or guardians’ certified IDs or death certificates, proof of disability if applicable, and an affidavit confirming that the information is true.
- Post it to the Municipal Manager, OR Tambo District Municipality, Private Bag X6043, Mthatha, 5099, or hand-deliver it to the Registry Office, OR Tambo House, Nelson Mandela Drive, Mthatha. Emailed and faxed applications are not accepted.
