The national Department of Tourism funds full-time external bursaries in a wide range of fields, not only tourism management but also the accounting, law, economics, data and administrative skills the department needs. The scheme is small and competitive, and the department advertises it on its own website early in the academic year.

How to apply for the Department of Tourism Bursary

Download the application form from the bursaries page at tourism.gov.za when the call opens.
Attach certified copies of your ID, Matric certificate and latest transcripts, proof of registration, proof of household income and a motivation letter. Honours and master’s applicants add a research proposal.
Email it to the address in the advert (Bursary2026@tourism.gov.za was used for 2026), post it to Tourism House, Private Bag X424, Pretoria 0001, or hand-deliver it to 17 Trevenna Street, Sunnyside, Pretoria, before the closing date.
