The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offers various grants to eligible South Africans who are struggling financially.

Understanding the application process and how to verify your SASSA application status is very important.

How Do I Verify My SASSA Application?

Verifying your SASSA application status simply means confirming that SASSA has received and is processing your application.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Choose Your Verification Method: SASSA offers several ways to verify your application:
    • Online: Visit the SASSA website and click on the “Application Status” section. Enter your South African ID number and the phone number linked to your application. Click “Check Status” to see if your application has been received.
    • SMS: Text “SASSA [ID Number]” (without brackets) to 082 046 8553. You’ll receive a response confirming receipt of your application.
    • Moya App: If you’re a registered Moya App user, log in and go to the SASSA services section. You should be able to see your application status there.
    • SASSA Offices: Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID document and inquire about your SASSA application status.
  2. Review the Information:  Whichever method you choose, ensure the details displayed match the information you provided in your application. This includes your ID number, name, and contact information.

Verifying your SASSA application status only confirms that SASSA has received it. It doesn’t guarantee approval.

What is SASSA Verification PIN?

The SASSA verification PIN is a 6-digit OTP code that is randomly generated and sent to applicants via SMS or email.

It serves as an extra verification step to confirm the applicant’s identity and ensure SRD grant funds are allocated to the proper recipient.

Each SRD grant applicant receives a unique OTP code.

Be cautious of scams. If you receive any communication requesting a verification PIN for your SASSA application, especially via SMS or email, it’s likely a scam attempt.

SASSA will never request personal information like a PIN through these channels.
