About the Arup Education Trust
The Arup Education Trust was established in 2011 to enhance the lives of historically disadvantaged youth in South Africa through education in the built environment sector.
At least 50% of its beneficiaries are women, reflecting a commitment to gender equity.
Arup is a global engineering and design firm, and while recipients are not required to work for Arup, they must commit to remaining in South Africa for at least three years post-graduation.
Fields of Study Funded
The bursary supports full-time study at recognised South African tertiary institutions in the following fields:
- Architecture
- Construction Studies
- Engineering (all disciplines)
- Quantity Surveying
- Town and Regional Planning
Applications from first-year students are welcome.
Benefits for Recipients
Selected students receive financial support, including:
- Tuition and registration fees
- Prescribed textbooks and study materials
- Accommodation and living expenses support
The Trust also organises development activities and access to vacation work experience, with mentorship and group sessions throughout the year.
Eligibility Criteria
You must meet all of the following:
- Be a South African citizen
- Belong to a designated B‑BBEE group (Black African, Coloured, Indian/Asian or disabled)
- Be accepted or registered for a degree in the built environment in 2026
- Be enrolled at a recognised South African university, preferably in Gauteng, Eastern Cape, or KwaZulu‑Natal
- Show strong academic performance
- Household income must not exceed R30 000 per month, though some official sources reference R15 000—confirm via official portal

- Complete the form and attach all required documents (see below).
- Submit online via the official application tool if available, or email your application to [email protected] with the subject line:

- Submit before 31 December 2025 via the approved channels only.
Required Documents
You must upload or email certified copies of:
- South African ID document
- Matric certificate (or latest results)
- Full academic transcript if already at university
- Current tuition fee statement from your institution
- Proof of household income (payslips, affidavit, or grant letter)
- Two contactable references with names, roles, and contact details
Ensure each document is in PDF format and below 2 MB in size.
