Fields of Study Funded

AngloGold Ashanti bursaries support full-time study in both mining-related and non-mining disciplines:

Mining-related fields:

  • Mining Engineering
  • Metallurgy, Geology, Mine Surveying
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering
  • Environmental Science, Instrumentation & Process Control, Safety

Non-mining fields the bursary may support:

  • Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Administration, Medicine
    All fields are offered depending on the bursary focus for the year.

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all the below:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be a matric learner or current tertiary student in a full‑time programme for 2026
  • Age 35 or younger
  • Reside in or be linked to host communities such as Merafong/Matlosana or Eastern Cape mining sending areas (employment regions)
  • Identify as the child of a current or former AngloGold Ashanti employee (for some bursary streams)
  • Demonstrate financial need, academic potential, and commitment to the chosen field
  • Meet minimum academic marks (usually ≥ 60%) in required subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Science, and English
    Failure to meet any requirement may disqualify you.

How to Apply

  1. Register at the official AngloGold Ashanti bursary portal.
  2. Complete the online application form early in the year
  3. When prompted “Where did you hear about bursaries?”, enter www.bursariesafrica.co.za.
  4. Upload all certified required documents via the portal
  5. Submit before the confirmed deadline—no email submissions accepted

Ensure your application is complete and uploaded before the closing date.

Required Documents

Submit clear and certified copies of:

  • South African ID document
  • Matric certificate or latest Grade 12 results (or tertiary transcripts if already at university)
  • Proof of current or forthcoming study in the qualifying field
  • Proof of residence or community linkage (if required)
  • Proof of household financial need (income affidavit, payslips)
  • Motivation letter or CV (as required)
    Applications missing documents or uncertified documents may be disqualified.

The bursary deadline for the 2026 intake is not yet published. In 2025, applications closed on 15 June 2025. 

Only applications received before the official 2026 deadline will be considered.
