CHIETA Discretionary Grants enable chemical sector organisations to fund training and strategic projects that address critical skills gaps. 

The application windows are open for only one month each cycle.

About the Grants

The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) administers Discretionary Grants to support strategic projects and skills development aligned with the Sector Skills Plan, DHET Strategic Plan, Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (ERRP), and the National Skills Development Plan 2030. 

These grants are targeted at chemical sector employers and research institutions to implement training and research initiatives.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include:

  1. Chemical sector employers (including levy-paying and non-levy paying companies)
  2. Accredited training providers
  3. SMMEs, CBOs, NPOs, NGOs, Cooperatives
  4. Government institutions, municipalities, TVET colleges, and higher education institutions that submit their ATR-WSP to CHIETA

What the Grants Cover

This funding supports:

  • Strategic projects and learning programmes (Cycle 1)
  • Research and skills planning (Cycle 3)

All training activities must occur within the applicable financial year.

  2. Submit your application online via the CHIETA IMS portal.
    Access through the CHIETA website under “Stakeholders Login.”

Application Window

  • 2025/26 Cycle 2 opened 10 April 2025 and closed 09 May 2025.
  • 2025/26 Cycle 3 opened 20 May 2025 and closed 20 June 2025.

Each cycle remains open for one month only so prepare early.
