The UCT Online High School scholarship program, also known as the Learning Liberated Scholarship & Bursary Programme, aims to bridge the financial gap for deserving students who may not be able to afford the full tuition fees. 

Made possible through collaborations with corporate sponsors like Valenture Institute, Sanlam, and the South African Human Rights Commission, the scholarship offers:

  1. Partial financial support: Covering 80% of the tuition fees for the duration of the scholarship.
  2. Full coverage of the SACAI Grade 12 Examination fee.

UCT Online High School Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the UCT Online High School Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. You must be a South African citizen and reside in South Africa for the duration of your studies.
  2. You must be entering Grade 8, 9, 10, or 11 in January 2025.
  3. Academic Performance: Achieve a minimum average of 50% for English (Home Language) and the required Mathematics level for your grade (50% for Grades 8-10, 40% for Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy for Grade 11).
  4. Financial Need: Demonstrate financial need with a family household income not exceeding R350,000 per annum (R29,000 per month).
  5. Future Goals: Have a clear intention to pursue tertiary studies and a career after completing high school.
  6. Technical Requirements: Access to stable internet, a laptop or desktop computer, and a printer.
  7. Supportive Environment: Have access to a safe learning environment with support from a responsible adult.
  8. Agreement: Read and agree to the rules and regulations of the scholarship program.

UCT Online High School Scholarship Application Requirements

Applications for the UCT Online High School Scholarship are submitted online through the UCT Online High School Scholarship Application portal. 

Here’s what you’ll need to have ready:

  1. Completed Online Application Form: Parents or guardians will need to register an account before accessing the application.
  2. Supporting Documentation: Clear copies of the following documents must be submitted with your application:
    • ID Document or Birth Certificate (applicant and parent/guardian)
    • Photo ID (applicant)
    • Latest academic reports (Term 2 & Term 4 of 2024) – Term 4 report to be submitted in December
    • Proof of Address (applicant and parent/guardian)
    • Proof of income (parent/guardian) not older than 3 months at the time of application

Incomplete applications or those lacking required documents will be disqualified.

How to Apply

Applications for the UCT Online High School Scholarship are submitted online only.

Here’s a breakdown of the application process:

  1. Application Period: May 6, 2024 – August 31, 2024 (23:59) – Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
  2. Start your application early: Applicants must begin their application within the application timeframe. Incomplete applications or applications with missing documents will be disqualified.
  3. Shortlisting and Matching: Between September 1-30, 2024, shortlisted candidates will be matched with sponsors based on available funding and sponsor criteria.
  4. Placement Fee: Shortlisted candidates will be required to pay a non-refundable Placement Fee.
  5. Scholarship Award and Acceptance: Between October 1-31, 2024, successful applicants will be awarded the scholarship by a corporate sponsor and receive a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to be signed. Students must also submit their validated 2024 Term 4 Final Academic Report.
