About Africa Wetu Foundation
The Africa Wetu Foundation (AWF) is a South African non-profit committed to expanding access to tertiary and vocational education.
AWF empowers young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through targeted bursary support for structured postgraduate and vocational qualifications.
Fields of Study Funded
AWF provides bursaries for the following full-time qualifications:
- MSc in Computer Science or Information Systems at the University of Cape Town or the University of the Western Cape
- National Certificate (Vocational) for Boilermaker or Fitter & Turner (CBMT Phases 1–4) at Northlink College
Only students studying in these specific programmes at the listed institutions are eligible.
Benefits for Recipients
The bursary covers tuition fees only at the approved institution. Other costs, such as accommodation or textbooks, are not funded.
Approved payments are made directly to the institution.
Eligibility Criteria
You must satisfy all of the following:
- Be a South African citizen under 30 years old
- Be entering your first attempt at a full-time Master’s degree or vocational certificate in one of the eligible fields at the designated institutions
- Demonstrate financial need, usually via household income documentation
- Have not previously studied at this level in the same qualification
