About the Assmang Manganese Bursary
Assmang’s Black Rock Mine Operations (BRMO), based near Kuruman in the Northern Cape, is one of South Africa’s largest manganese producers.
It is a division of Assmang Pty Ltd, part of a joint venture between African Rainbow Minerals and Assore Limited.
Fields of Study Funded
The bursary supports full-time undergraduate and diploma studies in:
- Mechanical Engineering (BTech/BSc/Advanced Diploma)
- Mining Engineering (BTech/BSc/Advanced Diploma)
- Mine Surveying (Advanced Diploma/BSc)
- Occupational Hygiene / SHERQ (BTech/BSc)

Assmang provides financial support covering:

- Accommodation
Additional benefits may include monthly allowances, dependent on the bursary agreement.

Eligibility Criteria ️
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- South African citizens aged between 18 and 35.
- Matric students: Bachelor’s pass and intention to study in an eligible field in 2026.
- Tertiary students: Must be in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year with a minimum “B” average and full academic progression.
- Preference for applicants from the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, Northern Cape.
- Preference is also given to students with disabilities and those demonstrating financial need.
- Must not be receiving any other bursary or financial assistance.
How to Apply
- Await the official 2026 application opening.
- Prepare your application documents (see section below).
- Apply online, via email, or by physical delivery to BRMO. In previous years, applicants entered reference codes or submitted documents directly.
- In the “Where did you hear about bursaries?” field, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
- Submit before the confirmed deadline.

- South African ID document
- Matric certificate or latest results
- Full tertiary academic transcript, if already at university
- Proof of registration or acceptance (on official letterhead)
- Updated CV
- Proof of residence (e.g., municipal bill)
You’ll need to provide all of these; missing or uncertified documents may result in disqualification.
Closing Date
The 2026 closing date has not yet been confirmed, but based on past cycles, expect it to fall between late July and early December 2026.
