  • Funds are paid directly to the educational institution, not the student.
  • Successful applicants must sign a bursary agreement with Bergrivier Municipality.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Must be a South African citizen and permanent resident within the Bergrivier Municipal area.
  2. Must be in Grade 12 or already enrolled full-time in your first Degree or National Diploma.
  3. Must be studying at a recognised accredited institution in South Africa.
  4. Preference is given to applicants aged between 18 and 35, but other ages may be considered.
  5. Preference given to those with household income below the GAP housing threshold.
  6. If currently studying, must have passed the previous year’s studies.

How to Apply

  1. Download the bursary application form from the Bergrivier Municipality website or collect a hard copy from any municipal office in towns such as Piketberg, Velddrif, Porterville, Eendekuil, Aurora, Redelinghuys, and Goedverwacht.
  2. Complete the form and submit in person only to the municipal office, marked clearly “Application for External Study Bursary,” addressed to Mr. D Boumeester, Human Resource Officer: Training and Development.
  3. No email or fax submissions will be accepted.

Required Documents

You must submit the following certified documents along with your completed application form:

  1. South African ID copy
  2. Matric certificate or latest academic transcript
  3. Proof of residence (e.g., municipal account)
  4. Parents’ or guardians’ ID copies
  5. Proof of household income (salary slips, pension statements, or affidavit if unemployed)
  6. Proof of registration or acceptance at a tertiary institution
  7. Statement of study costs (course fees breakdown)
  8. If applicable, motivation letter, CV, and proof of disability or academic performance as specified in form.

Closing Date

The closing date for the previous cycle was 29 August 2025 at 15:00.

You must ensure your application is hand-delivered and complete by the deadline. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
