Its mission is to advance education and economic development by supporting Black South African women who want to study mechanical engineering. 

The bursary is highly targeted and aims to empower female engineers who might otherwise lack financial means.

Golelo Trust Bursary Eligibility Requirements

  1. Must be a South African citizen.
  2. Must be Black (African, Indian, or Coloured) and female.
  3. Must be studying Mechanical Engineering — either a degree or a technical diploma.
  4. Must be in second year or higher (i.e., must have completed first year).
  5. Studying at a recognised and accredited South African university or university of technology.
  6. According to some sources, the university should be in the Gauteng province.
  7. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
  8. Applicants should not already be receiving another major bursary.

Golelo Trust Bursary Application Process

  1. Download and complete the official Golelo Trust application form.
  2. Prepare certified copies (by a Commissioner of Oaths) of:
    • ID document
    • Matric/Grade 12 certificate or first-year academic results
    • Full academic record, including most recent results/transcripts
    • Proof of residential address (e.g., municipal or telephone account)
    • Annexure A form, if required by application materials.
  3. Submit your application either by email or by post:
  4. Shortlisted applicants may be interviewed and undergo psychometric testing.
  5. If successful, you will need to sign a formal bursary contract with the Golelo Trust.
