Eligibility Requirements for the Implats Bursary
To be considered for the Implats Bursary, applicants must demonstrate strong academic achievement and meet the following criteria.
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You must be currently in Matric or have successfully completed your Matric certificate.
- You must have achieved a minimum University Exemption pass in Matric.
- You must meet specific minimum academic thresholds in your final Matric results or latest academic record:
- English: Minimum Rating Code 5 (or 60%)
- Mathematics (not Maths Literacy): Minimum Rating Code 5 (or 60%)
- Physical Science: Minimum Rating Code 5 (or 60%)
- You must be studying or intending to study towards a qualification within one of the approved fields of study.
- You must be registered or provisionally accepted to study at a recognised South African university.
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply, provided they can meet the physical demands of the intended occupation.
- Successful applicants are required to complete structured vacation work at an Implats operation every academic year.
- Bursary recipients must agree to enter into a work-back agreement with Implats upon graduation.
Impala Platinum/ Implats Bursary Coverage and Value
The Implats Bursary is a comprehensive funding programme designed to alleviate all major financial burdens related to study.
- Full Tuition Coverage: Registration and tuition fees for the entire duration of the course are covered.
- Accommodation and Meals: Residence fees are covered.
- Cash Allowance: A monthly cash allowance is provided to cover personal expenses.
- Learning Materials: Prescribed books and study materials are covered.
- Laptop Allowance: A personal computer allowance is provided starting from the second year of study.
Application Process for the Implats Bursary
The application process requires applicants to download, complete, and submit the physical application form, usually via post or email.

- Complete the Form: Complete the application form fully using clear handwriting or typing. Do not leave any sections blank.
- Certify and Gather Documents: Collect all compulsory supporting documents and ensure they are clear, certified copies. The documents include:
- Certified copy of your ID document.
- Certified copy of your Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results (if currently in Matric).
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate (if completed Matric).
- Certified copy of your full tertiary academic record (if currently studying).
- Proof of Registration/Acceptance letter from a Tertiary Institution.
- A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV).
