What is the TuksSport Bursary?

Awarded annually, the Sport Performance Support Bursary is designed for full-time students who demonstrate talent and commitment in one of the recognised sports offered at TuksSport. Application Deadline
All applications must be submitted by 31 July 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Eligible Sporting Codes
Applicants must participate in one of the following sports:
Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Canoe, Chess, Cricket, Cycling, Fencing, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Netball, Rowing, Rugby, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, Trampoline, Triathlon, Volleyball, Wrestling
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a full-time registered student at the University of Pretoria
- Be accepted into an academic programme at the university
- Compete and excel in one recognised sport code offered by TuksSport
- Agree to sign a contract with the university if selected
- Be willing to reapply annually, as the bursary is awarded per academic year based on continued performance
Applicants do not need to be studying sport as a qualification to be considered. However, it is essential to verify that the sport you play is supported by TuksSport before applying.
Important Conditions
The bursary is performance-based and reviewed annually. If academic or sporting performance drops, the bursary may be reduced or cancelled. Furthermore, applicants under the age of 18 must ensure a legal guardian signs the application form.
Bursaries will not be granted for more than one sport. Dual funding is not allowed. If a recipient discontinues their studies or fails to meet their contractual obligations, the bursary will be revoked and the full amount must be repaid to the university.
