About Afrimat Limited

Afrimat Limited operates the Nkomati Anthracite Mine in Mpumalanga, near Eswatini and Mozambique. 

The mine is part of Afrimat’s product portfolio, including anthracite, construction materials, industrial minerals, and more. 

The bursary is offered to invest in local youth from mining communities and develop future professionals in relevant studies.

Fields of Study Funded

This bursary supports full-time study in these fields at accredited South African tertiary institutions:

  • Mining Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
    Only these disciplines are offered. Preference is given to applicants from the Mawewe, Matsamo, and Lugedlane communities in eMalahleni Local Municipality.

Benefits for Recipients

Recipients receive financial support that may include:

  • Study materials and prescribed textbooks
  • Accommodation and stipend (where applicable)
  • Vacation work or experiential training opportunities during recess

Eligibility Criteria 

To qualify, you must meet all of the following:

  • Be a South African citizen from a designated HDI group
  • Have a Matric certificate with a minimum overall average of 65%
  • Be enrolled or accepted in 2026 for full-time study in Mining Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Achieve 60% or higher average in your most recent academic year (if already studying)
  • Be medically fit per the Mine Health & Safety Act and Afrimat standards
  • Preference given to female applicants and those from specified communities
    Applicants not meeting all criteria will be disqualified.

  1. Monitor Afrimat’s official website and bursary portal for the 2026 application announcement.
  2. Complete the online application form once available.
  3. When asked where you heard about bursaries, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
  4. Upload all required documents in a single PDF (max 3 MB).
  5. Submit your application via the online portal or email (address to be published in the 2026 announcement).

  • Matric certificate and results
  • Proof of registration or provisional acceptance for 2026
  • Latest academic record or transcript (if currently studying)
  • Proof of residence stamped by the Tribal Office in Mawewe/Matsamo/Lugedlane

    Missing or uncertified documents may lead to disqualification.
