Applications for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) are now open for students who plan to study in the third trimester of 2026 at TVET colleges. This funding opportunity is designed to cover the essential costs of higher education, allowing students to focus on their studies without financial pressure.

Key Dates

  • Applications Opened: 1 September 2026
  • Applications Close: 12 September 2026

This means students only have 17 days to submit their applications for funding.

What NSFAS Covers

NSFAS provides bursaries and student loans to eligible students. Funding includes:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees
  • Allowances for accommodation, transport, food, and learning materials

This financial support is targeted at students from poor and working-class households who cannot afford the costs of tertiary education.

Important Notice

Only apply now if you plan to study in the third trimester of 2026. Applications for 2026 funding will open later this year.

How To Apply For NSFAS

The application process remains the same as earlier in 2026. Students must apply online using the myNSFAS portal.

Steps To Apply:

  1. Visit www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS tab.
  2. Create a myNSFAS account.
  3. Click on the APPLY tab and fill in all required sections.
  4. Upload the necessary supporting documents.
  5. Click Submit to complete your application.

NSFAS Requirements For TVET College Students

To qualify for NSFAS, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be registered or planning to register for a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 programme
  • Meet the N+Rule requirement
  • Not be enrolled in a qualification that duplicates previous state-funded studies
  • Have a combined gross family income of:
    • Up to R350,000 per year for a bursary
    • Up to R600,000 per year for an NSFAS loan
